As you know Portola Redwoods and Castle Rock State Parks are true gems to this wonderful area we call home. We are lucky to have these majestic parks nearby, improving our quality of life and offering a respite to our hectic lifestyles. We invite you to join your neighbors, friends and visitors as a Member of the Portola and Castle Rock Foundation and become a champion of these specials places.
In 2011, Portola Redwoods and Castle Rock State Parks were slated for closure. The Portola and Castle Rock Foundation formed partnerships with Sempervirens Fund, Peninsula Open Space Trust and Save the Redwoods League to sign Donor Agreements to keep both Parks open.
The Portola and Castle Rock Foundation has been providing quality educational experiences to children and adults along with infrastructure improvements to Portola Redwoods and Castle State parks since 1991. Our Foundation provides the boots-on-the-ground volunteers that welcome visitors to the parks, operate the Portola Redwoods Visitor Center Store, and walk the trails informing Park Rangers of situations needing attention. Your membership donation will help continue and enhance these programs that make Portola Redwoods and Castle Rock State parks so special. Plus our membership donations do much more.
With our members’ support, as well as our Partners, we have been able to fund needed infrastructure improvements at the Parks. In fact, over the past three years donations from members just like you, enabled us to install welcome panels and interpretive signage at both Portola Redwoods and Castle Rock State Parks, rebuild the Ramada picnic shelter at Portola Redwoods, and fund a continuing clean-up at Castle Rock erasing graffiti, removing asbestos hazards and thousands of waste tires. But there’s much more to do. In 2018 we hope to replace the roof on the Interpretive Shelter and replace the fire rings at the trail camp at Castle Rock as well as make improvements to the Portola Redwoods Visitor Center. This work is critical to our Parks and the Parks are critical to our community. Will you please join us and become a member today?
