Winter Storms Effect Access to the Parks

Portola Redwoods State Park

There was a landslide on the Portola entrance road that trapped five visitors inside the park. The landslide has been cleared, but it will likely continue to drop debris onto the road. For this reason, Parks management has decided to close Portola to all visitors for the next two weeks -through 23 February (estimate). More heavy storms are expected throughout next week, starting Wed/Th. Rangers will be closing and locking the gate so volunteers and visitors will not have access to the park.

Castle Rock State Park

On Friday 10 February a massive slide took out a huge section of Hwy 35 – Skyline Blvd -Between 16649241_10210176983474231_8464320280951705105_nBlack Road and Castle Rock State Park. just north of Las Cumbres. The slide is about 200 ft wide and reported to be 1/4 mile deep.  With Hwy 9 to Saratoga also closed, currently the only way to reach  Castle Rock from the bay side is through Page Mill Road.
